USEP and Present Exigencies

The University of Southeastern Philippines is now a big university. Its success as an institution marks among the best achievements of our graduates in the past couple of decades. It has been established its roots, and is today worthy to take its place among the oldest institutions of learning ion the region. Human wisdom has been distilled here and has founded a university that can promote with the older ones. This is a signal achievement for which the builders of this university should receive the highest commendation, it is fitting that it’s mentors make their pledge to guide and mold the youth unerringly toward light and truth, toward virtue & wisdom, and for all of us to remember in the light of the new day that a training purely scholastic in nature. The goal is to strive at for a university conscious of its responsibility is to develop brains that will think and brawn that will work.
I am sure that the initiators of this great institution especially the government are not satisfied that they nearly help prepare the youth to make a living and get in society. For a university deserving of its great name should be concerned not only with making the individual under its roof around at his powers and possibilities for himself and that of his community alone, but also with furnishing him the proper inspiration to utilize his abilities to promote the true intent of education which is that of real service to his fellowmen- every man.
USEP does not stop at simply making knowledge and wisdom available at all. It should train the students to make appropriate use of them and to attain the biggest possible measure of usefulness in the everyday life of their community and country. It gives students the perspective which comprehends the rewards of a gainful occupation and the moral and spiritual satisfactions that answer of social service and of time well spent.
As we prepare ourselves for our own tasks, we must accordingly let others examine our efforts and our endeavors. And in doing the same for others we must start familiarizing ourselves not only with our country and its problems, but with all of the outside world. We must explore and discover the way to accomplish the urgent tasks that people are facing everywhere. This is a service which this university and only the University of the Land can contribute and render.
The vision is there. The Challenge is there. We have the youth, we have the manhood. We have the institution to produce leadership. I am confident that, the courage, the dedication, the will to progress and to prepare, we shall yet emerge strong and powerful from the travails that today are testing our country and world. USEP can ads use no greater cause. The Filipino youth can pledge to a worthier conservation. The determined peoples of the world can have no nobler reason for being.
